After an accident: organize the first steps.

Medical needs come first. Then preserve the information that helps explain the incident, the injury, and the communications you receive.

By Juda Rafael, Esq. · The Injury Plug PC

Address immediate safety and medical needs.

If there is an emergency, seek emergency assistance. Follow medical advice about evaluation and treatment. A website cannot assess your injury, and decisions about care belong with qualified medical professionals.

Preserve the information you can safely collect.

Keep photographs, contact details, insurance information, and any incident or crash report reference. Save relevant video and messages. If someone else has a record that may matter, note who has it and what it may show.

You do not have to reconstruct everything in the first conversation with an attorney. An organized starting point is useful even when parts of the account are still unclear.

Keep a simple record of the practical impact.

Save bills and receipts. Note missed work and the ordinary tasks the injury affects. Keep treatment dates and provider information together. Be accurate and distinguish what you know from what you still need to confirm.

Keep insurer communications together.

Save letters, emails, claim numbers, and proposed releases. Note who called and what was requested. A deadline to respond to an insurer may be different from a legal filing deadline, and both deserve attention.

Know who is representing you.

For a California injury, you can contact Juda Rafael directly. Explain where and when the incident occurred and whether there is something time-sensitive to review. If your matter is in Texas, contact Avi Cohen through the Texas practice.

A consultation is a chance to discuss the matter. It does not require a complete collection of records before you reach out.
